UFC star McGregor is interested in major alts such as XRP and SOL.
Gate News bot message, five-time UFC champion Conor McGregor recently revealed his interest in XRP in a post on X, stating that he is exploring various Blockchain decentralization propositions, such as Cardano and XRP.
McGregor pointed out that he was initially told that only Bitcoin and Ethereum were "truly decentralized" networks. However, the U.S. government decided to establish a digital currency reserve that includes XRP, Solana (SOL), and Cardano (ADA), which piqued his curiosity and prompted him to seek opinions from the cryptocurrency community about these networks.
After McGregor's post, supporters of XRP have come forward to defend its decentralization features. Notable XRPL validator Vet believes that the level of decentralization of XRP is no less than that of Bitcoin or Ethereum, thus making its inclusion in the digital asset reserve system reasonable. Experts point out that the XRP Ledger (XRPL) has recently undergone upgrades to enhance its functionality and decentralization features.
In addition, Panos Mekras, the founder of Anodos Finance, stated that XRP has pioneered several key innovations in the crypto space. He believes that deflationary token economics, burn mechanisms, Layer 1 prioritization, and tokenization mechanisms all contribute to making XRP a solid and powerful Blockchain.
In response to McGregor, EasyA founder Dom Kwok clarified that Bitcoin is a store of value, while XRP, SOL, and ETH are utility tokens. Kwok believes that these tokens are included in the U.S. digital asset reserve system based on their utility, not valuation.
In addition, McGregor previously hinted that he might participate in the Irish presidential election and promised to incorporate Bitcoin into Europe's balance sheet. McGregor has arranged to meet with El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele to discuss the feasibility of a strategic Bitcoin reserve for Ireland. With the growing interest in other cryptocurrencies, discussions about establishing a digital reserve that includes XRP may come to the forefront.
