The Republican Party plans to cap the SALT tax deduction at $30,000, down from the $40,000 proposal in the House.

[Golden Finance] Golden Finance reported that a key Republican negotiator stated that Republican senators are considering capping the state and local tax (SALT) deduction at $30,000 as a compromise between the current law and the more generous limits of the Trump tax plan passed by the House. Moderate Republican Senator Thom Tillis, who is involved in the negotiations, indicated that Republican senators are trying to lower the $40,000 SALT cap passed by the House to at least $30,000.
