Sam Altman: Meta spent 100 million USD to attract OpenAI talent but failed.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated that Meta has offered a contract signing bonus of up to 100 million USD to recruit talent from OpenAI, but no one has accepted. Altman described Meta's approach as "crazy" and believes that this company is aggressively hunting talent because OpenAI plays a central role in the global AI race.

Mark Zuckerberg is directly leading the recruitment campaign for Meta's new "superintelligence" division, competing with OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind. Meta recently invested 14.3 billion USD in Scale AI and is hiring many experts from major AI centers, such as Jack Rae from Google DeepMind.

Altman is confident that OpenAI can hold onto its team thanks to a mission-driven culture that is not influenced by money. He emphasized that true innovation comes from meaningful goals, not just from the sky-high salaries that Meta is proposing.
